Post-Doctoral Fellowships

The two post-doctoral programs involve the in-depth research on a specific problem within health care. Fellows pursue these goals under the mentorship of one or more Institute faculty members. Current work within The Institute includes studies of patients’ decisions when confronted with complex and uncertain medical choices, the processes and potential biases in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, the distribution of health care resources across hospital market areas, issues in the delivery and payment of care to geriatric patients, the impact of managed care on patient outcomes and costs, primary care for children, and methods to continually improve patient outcomes and satisfaction with care. Investigators within The Institute include physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, economists, sociologists, psychologists, decision analysts, medical geographers and statisticians. Clinical areas of particular interest include cardiovascular disease, the spine, osteoporosis, cystic fibrosis, and prostate disease. The Institute is committed to collaborative research based on the use of diverse methods and interdisciplinary approaches and to understanding the primacy of the patient in the rational use of health care.

The Institute offers three formal post-doctoral programs:
